Munkedal Fishing Paradise: Tips for Sea Trout, Salmon & Game Fish
As a Munkedal resident, life is interesting in many ways, but especially because you live in an epicenter of fishing opportunities:
10 minutes and you’re by the salmon river, 15 minutes and you’re wading on the sea trout beach, 10 minutes and you’re directly at a selection of exciting waters for pike, zander, and perch. And if you add another 20 minutes, entirely new possibilities open up (mackerel, trout, etc.)

Sea Fishing
Sea Trout
One of my favorite topics. Caught directly from dry land, by wading, or from a boat.
Mackerel
The heraldic fish of the Bohuslän summer and an integral part of coastal culture. Mostly fished from a boat, but also easily caught from shore in the right spots. A rewarding fish that even beginners can catch quickly.
Cod
As in many parts of Europe, the development here is not good either. But they are present, and strong efforts are being made to nurse the population back to health.
Flatfish
Honestly, a niche topic and not something I can really speak much about. But the Skagerrak is definitely an interesting area, and there are many spots where you can catch flatfish. Even without a surf rod. I once caught one as bycatch while fly fishing for sea trout.

Freshwater Fishing
Salmon
Found in one or two rivers here, but especially in the Örekilsälven in Munkedal. Of course, not easy to catch here either, but it’s a river that is improving against the general trend in Northern Europe and attracting more and more international visitors.
Perch and Pike
Found in all kinds of waters in the region, and Dalsland in particular has lakes with extremely large fish populations (Vänern, Foxen, Stora Le, …)
Zander
You have to look a bit to find them, but some waters are designated zander waters (Kärnsjön, Viksjön)

Bohuslän – a complete sea trout destination
One thing up front: the West Swedish region of Bohuslän is different. Different from most sea trout areas you’ll find around the Baltic Sea—not flat terrain that’s only gently rolling if you’re…

Summer Sea Trout on the Fly – Easier Than You Think
In many places and among many anglers, sea trout have a reputation for being distinctly spring or autumn fish. The water must not get too warm, because in the typical sea trout areas of the Baltic…

Veddö – Sea Trout Angler’s Paradise
I've never been to the Irish islands, so I can't say what it's like there. But places like Veddö must exist in Ireland – at least in my imagination. Veddö is wonderful, and it's easy to get carried…
As a fly fisherman, my repertoire is somewhat limited by the method, and not everything mentioned above can be effectively fished by me. Nevertheless, an extreme amount is possible. Sea trout, salmon, and the native predatory fish each offer an incredible number of fishing options. And although they compete for my interest, they complement each other quite well: Low water in the Örekil but west wind and rising water on the coast? Go for sea trout! Plenty of water in the river and calm weather on the coast? Head to the river! An hour for a short trip with the kids? Grab a perch rod, quickly to the lake, and hunt for 40cm+ fish!
Even though I usually only go out with my fly rod, my past as a spin angler naturally doesn’t completely let go, and I’m happy to accompany friends and acquaintances with a spinning rod sometimes. And honestly: I do miss that hard bite when jigging for perch or jerking for pike every now and then, especially when nothing has happened after hours of casting salmon flies!
The following pages deal with the various types of fishing here – and if you have questions about the current fishing situation or would like company on the water – Just write!
