Bohuslän is particularly famous for its archipelago. And what’s the most direct way to experience it? Paddling in a small boat – and it’s world-class!

Bohuslän is one of Europe’s premier sea kayaking destinations. And from experience, I can say: it’s exactly as you imagine it. Paddling at water level along small islets, islands, rugged cliffs, or across sandy beaches is an experience. And with us, it’s perhaps especially enjoyable. The diverse island world reveals new impressions around every corner. It never gets boring.

In such calm conditions, gliding over the water is a delight.

The length of the tours is, of course, up to each individual. Short introductory paddles or multi-day trips through the archipelago are equally possible. Or a compromise: simply spend the night on an island under the open sky – and return the next morning. A wonderfully short escape from civilization. Beer, campfire, and good conversations included – the full experience!

A small fire is, of course, the highlight of such an evening. However, to avoid scarring the rocks forever, it is important to use a fireproof base.

However, you should generally have some experience. The archipelago may often seem calm, but once you paddle out from the wind and current shadow of protective islands, you quickly feel the force of the Skagerrak under your keel, even in otherwise calm weather conditions – and that can become uncomfortable.

This area near the open coast might not be ideal for your very first paddling experiences. But for that, you could switch to one of the numerous fjords. They have their own unique charm scenically, but are often significantly calmer.

If you have some experience, it doesn’t necessarily have to be a rigid sea kayak. Inflatable versions work just as well. My brother has been doing it this way for years – even on longer tours.

If you have some experience and a feel for what's feasible, you can certainly venture out on the water with inflatable kayaks.

Otherwise, rent your boats directly from us – with roof racks and everything else you need to explore the coast 100% flexibly (just send me a quick inquiry).

However, particular caution must be exercised regarding navigation and other standard safety equipment for paddling: sea chart, life vest, change of clothes, etc., are a must. And ideally, pay attention to water temperatures. If you fall into the water, only true experts can rescue themselves back onto the boat. In cold water temperatures, it can quickly become really dangerous.

Here are a few small pointers on where to easily get into the water and find beautiful areas:

  • Veddö Nature Reserve. Park in the “Naturreservat Veddö Parkering” parking lot. It’s thirty meters to the water, and you can comfortably launch your boat and paddle through a very calm bay.
  • Tullboden. A very, very beautiful area. Relatively sheltered with lots of small islands. From here, you can reach Kungsham / Smögen by water in a manageable amount of time. Park at “Tullboden vattensportklubb.”
  • Saltkällan near Munkedal: A good beginner spot. Very shallow water extending far into the sea and sheltered within the fjord. Afterwards, there’s ice cream or pizza (highly recommended!) at the Saltkällan Badkiosk.
