Sea trout guiding in Sweden on the fjord and skerry coast of Bohuslän
Crystal-clear salt water, bare granite and a really good sea trout stock. I take you to the spots I have grown to love on this coast since 2018 – with fly or spinning rod, out of passion for the water.

Perhaps Europe’s most beautiful sea trout water.
Branching fjord systems, thousands of skerries and open coastline: Bohuslän on Sweden’s west coast is a sea trout water you do not forget in a hurry – well away from the busy beaches of the German and Danish Baltic.
The fishing here is simply countless, and in most cases there is no other angler in sight. Where the Baltic gives you a hundred metres of beach, here you have several hundred metres of shore with countless possible spots.
Whether at the April open, summer fishing over deep water or the lively autumn fishing in September: I take you to the places that, in my experience, fish best, and show you what matters in these conditions.
“Even in the middle of summer you can stand alone on the shore – while a few kilometres away the coastal towns are buzzing.”

Where fjord and skerries meet North Sea water.
The Bohuslän coast is fundamentally different from classic Baltic fisheries. Extremely structured ground meets salty water from the Skagerrak and the North Sea – currents and tide make the fishing even more interesting.

Fjords
Sheltered fjord systems such as Gullmarsfjord still give you fishable shore in the wind: bays, stream mouths and rock edges the trout keep moving along.

Skerries
Thousands of islands, sounds and headlands. Shallow leopard-bottom bays often sit only a few metres from steep rock – variety in a very small space.

Open coast
Granite shores that drop straight into deep water. This is where you still find sea trout when they look for cooler water in high summer.

1. April bis Mitte April
Saisonauftakt
- Größte Auswahl an Plätzen: Strände, Sunde, Riffe, Felsen
From Uddevalla to Fjällbacka.
Where we go is decided by wind, weather and season. Bohuslän has a sheltered corner for almost every condition.
I live in the heart of Swedish sea trout country: the first sea trout beach near Munkedal is only about 15 minutes away. We agree the exact meeting point the day before – usually around Munkedal, Uddevalla, Sotenäs or Lysekil.

Hej, I am Raphael.
A rod in my hand for more than 25 years – over time from a pure lure angler to mostly a fly fisher.
I have lived with my family in Bohuslän since 2018 and fish the west coast hard, especially northern Bohuslän. I love taking visitors out and exploring fjord, skerries or the open sea together.

Common questions about sea trout guiding.
Still something open? Just write – even if we do not end up sharing a day, I am happy to help with fishing and local information.
No. Fishing with hand tackle (rod and reel) on the Swedish west coast is licence-free for private anglers. Closed seasons and size limits still apply: on the west coast sea trout are protected from 1 October to 31 March, the minimum size is 45 cm, and no more than two sea trout may be kept per person per day. We keep to these rules strictly when guiding.
The season runs from 1 April to 30 September. The classic peak is mid-April to late June. In summer you fish deep rock edges by day and the surface in the evening and at night. In September, before the closed season, strong fish move in close to the coast again. More in the season guide.
Your own wading kit plus rod and reel is welcome. Fly: 9 ft, #6–7, intermediate line, plus sinking lines in summer. Spin: a rod around 2.70 m with a 10–30 g casting weight. If you have no tackle, I can provide loan gear including waders by arrangement.
Absolutely. The day follows your skill. Besides finding spots, beginners learn the whole package – from the first cast through fly or lure choice and retrieve to tactics on the water. I am happy to help with the first casts on a fly rod.
The meeting point follows wind and weather in Bohuslän, typically around Munkedal, Uddevalla, Sotenäs or Lysekil. We agree the exact place the day before.
You will not find a price list here, on purpose. My days are not a commercial offer – they happen in my own time, from the joy of sharing this water. How the day runs, how long it lasts and the frame we talk through simply and personally once you get in touch.
Bohuslän is known not for the biggest sea trout, but for a great many of them. In the right conditions a dozen fish or more in a day is quite realistic – there is never a guarantee in fishing, of course.
The water sits about an hour north of Gothenburg. From Germany the Kiel–Gothenburg ferry works well, from Denmark the Frederikshavn–Gothenburg ferry. Gothenburg Landvetter airport is about 80 minutes away.
Yes – for example our Treeline Studio: a tiny house with sauna and a lake view near Munkedal, about 15 minutes from the first sea trout beach. I especially enjoy going to the water with studio guests.
